Quotes Through Print
In this 2-3 week high school lesson students use printmaking as a means of communication. Students learn about the history of printmaking with an emphasis on the printed word. Students choose a personally meaningful quote from a book to be translated into a relief print and monotype. Students carve a relief printing block that reflects the ideas, themes, or imagery present in their quote. Students then create a gelatin monotype that also represents their quote and incorporates their relief print. At least one of the prints from each student is expected to contain at least one word from their chosen quote.
